Meetings

This is a summary of the minutes from the December 18, 2005 chapter meeting:

Meeting called to order at 10:05 a.m.

Treasurer's Report

Old Business

Quarterly calendar was accepted.

Cookbook
Patty has requested that anyone who would like to submit a recipe for the book either e-mail her pberry@swsurvey.com or phone her at 281-3493. This is a work in progress, so start dusting off those “secret recipes”. You can also bring them to the next meeting.

Larry’s Update
Larry and CJ have been to Phoenix and will hopefully hear in about a month about his eligibility. He will then be put on a donor waiting list. The chapter voted to give them the $420.00 crash fund plus an additional $200 was collected today for a total of $620.00.

All Albuquerque Toy Run
Approximately 1,000 bikes were in attendance. Suggestions were made to see about setting up an ABATE table and contacting the Optimus club to volunteer our help concerning biker issues at this event. It was reported that there was poor traffic control.

Rio Rancho Toy Run
Had a smaller turnout but appeared to be a better-planned event with good police escort.

AMA
Mike brought an AMA magazine article concerning Bill 252 that was passed. Patty, Charlene, and Scott attended the AMA safety meeting, which will allow us to advertise the event as AMA sanctioned. One of these three will have to be at the events in order to obtain insurance. ABATE of New Mexico is now a member. If we do serve alcohol we will have to get additional insurance.

New Business

This event will occur on April 23,2006. Registration will be on site at the Journal Pavilion @8-9:45AM. There will be a riders meeting @9:45 and @10:00AM the riders will take off for a 50-mile ride. Breakfast will be donated from Starbucks and lunch will be from Whole Foods. Make plans to attend this worthwhile event. Contact person will be Joyce Casey 281-8673.

NMMRO
We are on the governor’s list for the road bill to be heard at the next session. We need volunteers to help Barb, as CJ will be unavailable. There will be a meeting January 21 @ Wrap it Up restaurant-10th/Coal. Call Patty 281-3493 for details. Barb will be sending out names and addresses for us to send out letters. Dates for sessions at the Capitol are Jan 16th or 17th –Feb 11th. The 3rd Annual Lanky Dave Memorial Bike Day at the Capitol will be Saturday Feb 11th. Please make plans to attend so we can really show up in numbers.

Flags
Boomer donated a POW flag to the Chapter to fly at our events. Leigh and Patty have volunteered to sew a new Chapter flag.

Patriots Club
Joyce (Angel) reported on their distribution of gifts to the kids at the Psyche Hospital. 39 bikes attended and five bags of toys, movies, and DVD’s were given out on Dec 17. The kids were from 5-18yrs old and were thrilled to be remembered at this special time of the year. Warren made a pretty good Santa Claus. Anyone interested in seeing the Patriots photos should contact Angel @ 281-8673.

Bethel Storehouse
We received a thank-you note for our contribution.

Announcements

Team ABATE
Will be racing in Tularosa Jan 8th. They also reported that they are working on getting the trailer lettered.

MRF
Charley recommended checking out the MRF.org website concerning the EPA regulation. He will be leaving for Africa January 9th and request that no e-mails be forwarded at that time unless urgent.

George
As we all know George is now overseas in Iraq and we sent a late Christmas card. If we could remember to bring items to put in a care box from 1st Mt Abate of NM to the next meeting, I’m sure that it would mean a great deal to him.

We closed the meeting with a moment of silence for both George and Larry and his family. Keep them in your hearts and prayers.

NEXT MEETING: JANUARY 15TH @ THE PONDEROSA

The meeting was adjourned at 11:15 a.m.
