This is a summary of the minutes from the November 21, 2004 chapter meeting:
Meeting called to order at 10:10 a.m.
Old Business
$2000 Donation From VFW
Discussed how the money should be spent. Patty was to check with Mike Baca regarding the Senior Center. Roy stated that the McIntosh Senior Center would like a check, but some concern was voiced about handing them a check and not knowing how the money was to be spent. Roy was going to check back with them. We have a member in a nursing home and she is in need of a hearing aid. Letters to WalMart and Target drafted; we will possibly request some gift cards from them as well as whatever else they may have to donate.
We need to figure out how many food boxes we are going to need. We will look into buying in bulk nonperishable food and divvying it up. Cindy gave the go ahead to put a food collection bin at the Ponderosa so that anyone who would like to donate food could. Sharlene will get some boxes from Smith’s. Charley has some turkeys to donate.
There have been multiple requests for firewood. Buying 3-5 cords of wood and having it delivered to Patty’s and then distributed to the recipients from there. Volunteers to help deliver wood are: Bear, Charley, Damon, Scott, and Top. There will be two people per truck.
Top was going to talk to the Commander of the VFW. He has contacts from the National Guard who can help get us some blankets to distribute.
Next Meeting
Meeting starts at the Ponderosa at 9 a.m. on December 5, 2004, so that anyone who plans on participating in the All Albuquerque Toy Run can be at The Pit at 10:00 a.m. Don’t forget to bring food.
