Meetings
This is a summary of the minutes from the November 7, 2004 chapter meeting:
Meeting called to order at 10:10 a.m.
Treasurer's Report
Old Business
Halloween Party
Halloween Party was a nice time. A canopy was set up inside the hall for the haunted house. Next year we need to do more planning for the haunted house. Thanks to all who participated.
Top checked on the church and state issue with regard to the polling place. Apparently, a letter was sent out to businesses in our area requesting they donate their space for polling and the only place that responded was the Baptist church. The problem is the church telling people who to vote for.
New Business
$2000.00 Donation
Top lobbied the VFW and they gave us a donation of $2000.00. We discussed the distribution of this money to various needy people and if you know of anyone, ABATE member or non-member, who needs anything please submit their name and what they might need to an officer. The only stipulation is that they need some help in some way. Mike Baca suggested that there may some needy older folks up here on the mountain that we might be able to help out. Other suggestions were that we could help out with food, firewood, and propane. We will also approach some stores and see if they would be interested in matching our donations. Places that might be able to help us locate some needy folks were suggested: McIntosh Senior Center (Roy will check on it) and the Bethel Storehouse. Charlene is a Smith’s employee and she will speak to them about donations. Also, the schools are accepting donations of Campbell’s Soup labels to raise money and Smith’s has a program going on that you can sign up for that would dedicate a percentage of what you spend to the schools if you want to check it out. A motion was made and seconded that we table this discussion for now unless there is an immediate need. We will plan to donate as the needs arise. Motion passed. We will donate as anonymously as possible.
Insurance and Registration for the Team ABATE Truck
The truck still needs to be put in Mike Baca’s name or the team’s name. Mike is going to check on the cost of getting this going and get back to us. The racing season begins in February.
The Rio Rancho Toy Run is scheduled for November 21, first bike out at 11am. Look for flyers in the bike shops. The All Albuquerque Toy Run is scheduled for the first Sunday in December.
Meeting Schedule
We will discuss moving to one meeting a month for the winter during our 1st Sunday in December meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:00 a.m.
