Treasurer's Report

Old Business

Memorial Run for Audra Iversen
The event was well attended and raised a total of $2,368.00. $500 was placed in our account for purchase of the memorial plaques in the Botanical Garden. Patty and Angel presented the funds to Audra in her home.

Hurricane Benefit Ride
The event was cancelled and rescheduled for Nov. 5th at the Ponderosa. Everyone is encouraged to bring his or her handmade items for auction/raffle. A suggestion of making pre-event raffle tickets was made and a cost of $5.00/ticket was finally agreed on. Envelopes with a pack of 20 tickets will be distributed to members ahead of time. Since there will be no meeting prior to the event it is stressed to pick up envelopes at either the Halloween pre-decorating or party and try and sell them. If you miss out on these events you make arrangements to pick them up from Patty on your own 281-3493. Remember that this is a good cause and what funds we do raise, are just a drop in the bucket considering the overwhelming needs. Tularosa chapter has already responded and sent in $155.00, which was turned over to Joe, the State Abate Treasurer. Patty read a press release from Abate of LA. All funds collected will be turned over to affected members of the Abate of LA.

Halloween Party
Plans are in full swing for this annual event to occur Sat. Oct 29th at the Baca’s. Potluck dinner begins at 6pm. There will be a haunted house/maze, small kids games, cakewalk, carved pumpkin judging, costume judging, and lots of fun for kids and adults. Get out your costumes! On Sunday Oct 23 at 1pm there will be a pre-decorating gathering to get major work out of the way. Please bring your candy and tarps. We will also be collecting canned/dry goods or warm clothing items to distribute to the local Whispering Pines Sr. Citizen group. You can bring those on Oct 23 or to the party on the 29th. A motion was made and accepted to adopt this group to help throughout the year.

New Business

State ABATE Board Meeting
Patty reported on this event as her first meeting as State Coordinator. Tres Rios discussed rejoining with some issues over the cost. Ways of offsetting initial cost were discussed. Patty and Big D are planning on attending a meeting in Farmington to help answer questions and explain the benefits of membership.

State ABATE Newsletter
Sharp has taken on this project to come out four times a year. He would like to include a free listing of biker friendly establishments and classified section. He will also be selling add spaces: $20/business card size, $30/quarter-page size, $100/full page size. Any help for adds or letters to the editor can be sent to: sharprrr@yahoo.com or 281-9050.

COC Meeting
October 8th at the Zapata Club. Among the groups in attendance were: Abate, Patriots, Black Berets, Banditos and the Marine Corps Cycle Club. Discrimination was the main topic for discussion. A member from the Banditos was pulled aside and cuffed at the NM State Fair for wearing his colors. He is awaiting the police report and will turn this over to his lawyer. Lester passed out incident cards and stressed the importance of the first impression we make with law enforcement. He said the best thing to do is cooperate, keep your mouth shut and refer questions to your lawyer. The COC is working up a logo for T-shirts to sell. Abate of NM is one of about 8 or 9 organizations involved with the COC. Patty and Top have been nominated for treasurer. There was also debate over the need for more laws or eliminating existing laws. Patty is planning on making a copy of the show to take to the next meeting.

Letters From Afar
Charley read the last two letters from Boomer who is now on his way to American soil. The letters are a heartfelt and sensitive account of his experience on foreign soil. He hopes everyone respects his wish not to discuss the war on his immediate return.
