Old Business
Animal Shelter Run
Funds collected during the Animal Shelter Run were $725 in hands, $294 in raffles, and $24 in cash donations and $125 in check donations. We spent $35 on the tab and tip for the Easy Street Blues Band. After discussion and a vote, the total donation to the Shelter will be $760.42 with $407.60 remaining in the 1st Mountain ABATE treasury. Charlene advised us that 7 people failed to sign the waiver for the run, and reminded us that everyone attending, including non-riders, must sign the waivers for insurance purposes. Charlene thanked Cat, Elizabeth, Warren, Tim and Top for all their help.
Sandia Classic
Barbara, Charlene and Scott, and Damon attended. Barbara approached the planners about changing the date to coincide with Motorcycle Awareness Month in May. They were not receptive and advised Barbara to talk to David Sandoval. We then discussed ABATE and NMMRO co-sponsoring some type of run or event. This will be discussed further at a future meeting.
New Business
COC
Moved fast. Discussed N-Com; terms for offers was changed to every two years, no new officers at this time. Richard Lester was in attendance. Extreme Makeover Home Edition has contacted Patty; they want to do a home for a needy biker in New Mexico. Patty asked that we all be thinking about possible nominees. Click here to download the flyer and press release. Brummel is the new liaison for the COC.
NMMRO
Barbara brought copies of the recent questionnaire to legislators. She also brought copies of the NMMRO fall newsletters. NMMRO will have a meeting on October 21 at 10am at Wrap It Up (10th and Coal) to discuss the questionnaire. Feel free to join if possible. Barbara told us about a new committee named to help make roads safer for motorcycles. The committee includes several motorcycle friendly members. Contact Barbara if you want copies of any further information or copies of reports.
Bike Day at the Capitol
Monday, February 19, 2007 - Presidents Day. Please try to make arrangements to be there to support our hard working NMMRO representatives. A good biker-community showing is essential in order to let the representatives know who we are and that we are serious about making changes in the laws.
Retreads
Big D let us know that a battle to remove retreads from the roadways is under way. KC mentioned that he was told by a person who owns a retread shop that due to federal regulations, that within 2 years, all such shops will be out of business.
