We will direct prospective members to the closest chapter to their home, thereby supporting all chapters. Mike, Damon, MP, Charlene, Barb & Joyce volunteered to work the booth.

State Board meeting
Good meeting; discussed building up chapters - need to help Rio Rancho Chapter especially. Larry from Rio Rancho is promoting motorcycle safety in high school local drivers ed classes. Mike and Thelma will work toward getting him in at local mountain schools.

Fenton Lake
Group site has been reserved for Friday-Monday, September 1-4. The chapter will provide dinner on Saturday night, and members should bring something to donate for Friday night, Saturday and Sunday mornings. We will meet in Albuquerque at a place tbd to depart on Friday am.

Mal
With the donation from our crash fund and monies raised by Frank & Teresa at the event at Bare Assets, Mike was able to have Malachi Kennedy's body released and cremated. There was $45 remaining which will go back into the crash fund. Also the bar owner is donating a portion of sales to purchase gas for the ride to Red River to spread his ashes (probably next Memorial Day).

New Business

NCOM
This year's convention will be held in Albuquerque on November 11. ABATE will be responsible for bike security. The area is fenced in and we will be on a 24-hour watch for Friday and Saturday. The hospitality area is right next to the bike parking area and will be open 24 hours for coffee etc. Also, Patty and Barbara will secure a room for R & R open to security personnel. Contact Big D if you have questions, bd_watson@msn.com.

Military troops
Boomer requested prayers for Bobby Hedringer and his family as he departs for Iraq. We do this as we pray for George Bennett and all of our military.

2007 School Supply Run
Tim suggested we plan the 2007 School Supply Run prior to tax free weekend.

Animal Shelter Run
Charlene suggested that we postpone the Animal Shelter Run due to an over-loaded schedule. We voted to do this run on October 1, thereby changing our October meeting until October 8. Charlene went to the last board meeting of the TCAS, and they are very excited about our offer to have this run. She has also talked to the Blue Ribbon Bar in Estancia has offered to host the end of the run.

Charlene suggested stops be - Los Altos Park, Ponderosa, Shaeffer Hotel in Mountainair, Willard Cantina, and the Blue Ribbon. The proceeds will be split 60/40, thereby building money for the chapter, as well as the Animal Shelter.

Charlene asked that Joyce do the flyer for the event. Once again Charlene, great job!!! Thanks for all your hard work!

Rough Riders Rally
Las Vegas, NM. Good turnout, about 1000 people. Great bands, and out own Scott Guffey's Indian got first prize in the bike show! Also the coordinator expressed an interest in starting an ABATE chapter in Las Vegas.

NMMRO
Barbara went over an information page which is being compiled to present to each legislator in Santa Fe. It is a detailed report on helmet and motorcycle safety issues. Copy attached. Top asked that in the case of such detailed reports, presenters make copies to pass out thus shortening the presentation. Then only going over highlights with the group and asking for questions or comments. Jack suggested a sign up sheet for anyone wanting a copy to be sent by email or snail mail. Barbara was concerned that some members will take it but never read it, and that is why she feels in necessary to go in to such detail.

Top passed the hat for the crash fund - we collected $39.

Speaker
Bill (Tunnel Rat) Doefflemyer spoke about the US Volunteers. This is a group which honors fallen vets by providing motorcycle escort to their final resting place. They also are trained to help with homeland security in emergencies. Bill invited anyone to join in their next meeting on August 14, at the VFW on Gibson and Girard. You do not have to have prior military service to join.
