Meetings
This is a summary of the minutes from the August 3, 2008 chapter meeting:
Big D called the meeting to order at 10:00am. As at the beginning of all meetings, we stood for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Old Business
School Supply Run—Big D expressed the chapter's appreciation for the Black Berets manning the stops, as well as everyone else who volunteered. Also our thanks for the Black Berets donation of the model motorcycle, which we used as grand prize. We discussed having another run but since the funds collected turned out to be average for one of our runs, voted not to do so. We also discussed distribution of the remainder of the prizes. Please keep your blue tickets, and these will be given out at a Ponderosa Appreciation Party to be held at a future date. We have quite a few school supply donations and voted that since there really is not enough to split three ways between the schools, to give all those to Route 66 School. We will split the proceeds of the poker hands, plus add a bit from the treasury to total $140 per school to: A Montoya, San Antonito, and Route 66. Mike Baca volunteered Leigh to make these deliveries. Joyce will assist. Big D suggested we take other runs into consideration in planning future runs, in order to get a better turnout.
Fenton Lake—Mike Baca requested a count for the Fenton Lake Campout in order to finalize reservations and to allow purchase of food for the Saturday night dinner, which is provided by ABATE. Joyce volunteered to make calls and try to get a count within a week. (At this writing, there are 22 confirmed, but have been unable to reach everyone on the membership list. Please call Joyce ASAP, if you plan yo go and have not given me an accurate count already) Scott and Charlene will also announce the campout at the Estancia Valley Chapter's meeting on Sat, 8-09.
New Business
We discussed having a Ponderosa Appreciation party sometime soon. Damon will coordinate with Cindy & Josh, and Joyce will work on a flyer. We will again have a band and raffle prizes, and will combine tickets with the School Supply tickets to give out the remainder of the prizes. KEEP YOUR BLUE TICKETS!
August 23 is Bingo night at the Baca's to benefit the race team; it will begin at 6pm. It is not a potluck, but bring refreshments. Cookies will be sold with proceeds going to the team. Cookie donations will also be appreciated. Jake is planning to purchase a neck brace ($400). Mike announced that Jake has obtained a corporate sponsor, Bobby J's. Way to go Jake!
Joyce volunteered to work on a chapter scrapbook, and asked for funds ($20) to purchase the scrapbook; this was approved. Please email any pictures to kcsangel2@msn.com, and save any other items to be used in the scrapbook.
Charlene has been working with Sandia Race Track on the upcoming Sandia Classic, September 12-14. They have offered a free booth, and Charlene asked for volunteers from the chapter to work the booth. Cat, Tom and Sharp all volunteered. The Desperados, who were scheduled to appear at the State Picnic, are raising money for a little boy named Timothy for the Kids Wish Network. Charlene has committed to helping them do and will donating all funds raised at this event by ABATE to this worthy cause. (ps: I guess it's "Grandma Charlene" now).
Megan is now on the Board of Directors for the Sanctuary Zone. It is the only Torrance County violence shelter. They will host a Chili Cookoff on September 27. Anyone wanting to put together a team for this event should contact Megan at 286-0195. Come on all you "hot chefs".
Tom requested any digital pictures of Chapter Events be sent to him to post on the ABATE My Space website. Send to tmsouther@gmail.com.
