Meetings

This is a summary of the minutes from the July 6, 2008 chapter meeting:

Big D called the unofficial meeting to order at 10:05 a.m. As at the beginning of all meetings, we stood for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Treasurer's Report

Secretary's Report

The Secretary's report was read and a motion made to accept as read. She also read two notes with donations made in memory of members.

Old Business

  1. School Supply Run - July 20 Barb reported that although there had not been an official meeting of the committee, everything is pretty well done. Barb, Lori and Cat will be at Los Altos Park, the Black Berets will man stops 2, 3, and 4, and Big D, Tom, Leigh and Damon will be at the Ponderosa. Stops will be at Coffee at Dawn in Cedar Crest, the Dog House in Edgewood, and the Blue Ribbon in Estancia. Triple X will play from 1-4. Big D and Barb have tickets for door prizes and raffles. Cost is $10 for the first hand and $5 for each additional hand. We still need donations. KC donated $50 for the person who draws a joker, the winner getting half, and the other half to be donated to the school supply fund in his/her name. A map has been made and we have release forms. Big D will pass out cans and cards to the Black Berets manning the stops.

  2. Big D passed out "Rider's Rights and Civil Liberties" booklets. He has plenty more for anyone who wants them.

  3. Joyce gave a report on the Membership drive at Coffee at Dawn. Although no one expressed interest in joining ABATE, there were a lot of questions asked and misconceptions about ABATE corrected, flyers and bumper stickers passed out.

  4. State Picnic. Cancelled because the county got involved, and although ABATE did everything the county wanted, the owners of the arena did not keep their end of the agreement. ABATE may pursue a lawsuit for loss of funds.

New Business

  1. Franco announced the 35th annual Bake Off, to be held Saturday, July 19. at 1pm. He won last year so has the dubious honor of being in charge this year.

  2. Belen Sturgis Bound Rally will be July 25-27 at the Valencia County Fairgrounds.

  3. The Rough Rider Rally will also be July 25-27 in Las Vegas, NM.

  4. We conducted a manual vote for State Deputy Coordinator and Treasurer.

MRF Report
Barb went to the convention in Washington, will get a report to Sharp to include in the next newsletter.

NMMRO Report
Dave is doing great work. They are backing off on the red light controversy, as that seems to be resolved. The state is going to begin using cameras to trigger the lights. She suggested calling 311 if you do ride up to a light that does not change, to report the location.

NCOM Report
There was no NCOM report.

Big D thanked everyone for their attendance. The meeting was adjourned 11:40am.

Respectfully submitted by Joyce Casey
