MeetingsThis is a summary of the minutes from the June 17, 2006 chapter meeting: Meeting called to order at 10:06 a.m. Old Business Highway cleanup - was postponed until June 30, at 5pm. Meet at Ponderosa. Pot luck/happy hour to follow at Casey's. Connor Joe donated his hat for the "pass the hat". We collected $70. Mike thanked Scott and Charlene for all their hard work. School Supply Run - We decided on 27 August for the run. Mike asked that anyone interested on working on a committee call him - 281-5147 or Angel 281-8673. It was decided that we would end at the Ponderosa and Mike would discuss having specials and possibly a band, with Johnny and Cindy. Animal Shelter/Torrance County benefit - will be discussed at the next meeting, possibly a September date. State ABATE picnic - June 24-25. 1st Mountain is providing food. Scott and Charlene requested at least 3 propane grills be donated; Angel, Top, and Patty all volunteered to bring grills. Ice is being provided by the 10 Points Store, someone will need to pick it up. Charlene and Shirley are working together on the food. Shirley requested several containers with lids for chips; Mike will check on getting them from Home Depot. 1st Mountain members are asked to donate desserts for the event and bring them by the Bar Diamond S arena on Friday evening. There will be 3-4 vendors on site, including 1 snow-cone merchant, a t- shirt/pins etc dealer. Larry has a friend, an 80-year-old woman who makes bandanas; he asked if ABATE members who are vendors, get a break on booth rental, which is normally $35. We decided on charging a $20 fee to members. Scott and Charlene have passed out flyers all over the mountain area, to bike shops in town, and generally everywhere they go. He asked that members also spread the word. Several shops have given him prizes. Charlene has obtained a 2-part insurance policy for the event; 1 is the actual insurance for the event and one is the liquor insurance. Blackies is providing the kegs of beer for the picnic at a $79 fee per keg. There is no deposit on the kegs or taps. Big D and Larry will pick up the kegs. Central New Mexico Pump will provide the toilets. They require payment in advance. This and most other monies for the event will be paid by State ABATE. A motion was made and passed to give Mita authority to disperse funds as needed to the State for any necessary chapter donation. Non-ABATE members joining the day of the event will get in free with paid membership. Thunderbird Harley has shown interest in ABATE. The new owners also own dealerships in Florida and are affiliated with ABATE there. We plan to send them information on upcoming events. Valencia Chapter has provided us with ABATE signage to put on the roads. Officers will have a "walk-through" on June 21. Scott needs planks for the event. Will work with Top on lumber from Buzzy's. Again, kudos to Scott and Charlene!!! Good work guys! Work day - Top asked for help on the final repairs at Buzzy and Bett's. We agreed to meet at 9am Saturday, June 10 to help out. Barbeque to follow. Bring a dish. They live at 19 Bluebird, 2 streets south of Morning Star, 2nd house. New Business N-Com - Sharp attended the N-Com convention and has 11 hours of videos. Will have a synopsis in the next State Newsletter. NMMRO - Barbara spoke at length about the proposed questionnaire being sent out to candidates, post election, on Tuesday regarding views on motorcycles and motorcyclists rights. Information can be requested from her at barbaraw1116@yahoo.com or 792-3207. The main bill NMMRO will work on for the following session is the Right of Way bill, which will protect everyone on the road, not only motorcyclists. Several members of ABATE and NMMRO will attend the Best of the West MRF convention in Prescott Arizona on 16-18 June. She has one room left at $85 per night. Contact Barbara for details if you want to attend. NMMRO is changing their website, hopefully allowing easier access. NMMRO is having a fundraiser at Bebo's Bar, near Laguna on July 22. Raffles, prizes and fun for all - and camping with native critters if desired. Elections - Nominations were taken from the floor for Chapter Deputy Coordinator ; Scott, and Damon were nominated and accepted nominations; and for Secretary; Angel was nominated and accepted providing someone else would be willing to take over as Events Coordinator, and Leigh, present Secretary, was also nominated but has declined the nomination. Ballots will be out before the next meeting. State Board Meeting - The next State Board meeting is July 15, 1st Mountain will host and provide food; to be discussed at the next meeting. Black Berets - Boomer discussed the Black Berets MIA/POW boot display, which honors the New Mexico MIA/POW's from Vietnam . The exhibit was met with enthusiasm & welcomed at the Angel Fire Memorial Day event, & they have been asked to participate in both Moriarty 4th of July celebration, & the MIA/POW Day to be held at New Mexico Veterans Memorial 16-18 Sept. They welcome ABATE & other groups to participate in both events. (Patty stopped by the display in Angel Fire, and said it was both impressive and moving.) Announcements New Mexico Patriots have returned from their annual ride to DC for Memorial celebrations. All are safe - no problems, breakdowns, or rain! Barbara met 16 bikers leaving from Washington state for the ride to DC. Charlene asked for help for friend in Questa wanting to construct memorial there. Top will contact, and put him in touch with John Garcia. Diana went to event at Vets Memorial Monday. Diana gave Angel the program listing our donation in honor of Garrett and David. It will be put into the ABATE scrapbook. Governor Richardson attended the rally in Red River, but declined to purchase "a round for the house". Mike read a letter from Yvonne and Phil regarding their upcoming move to Oklahoma. We wish them good luck, and many thanks for all they have done for ABATE!!!! Rail and Tamami are doing well after their close encounter with an elk! Rail is recovering from eye surgery. We wish them the best and send our love. (Whereabouts and condition of elk- unknown) Last but not least, we welcome Charly's beautiful bride Alice to our family! The meeting was adjourned at 12:00 p.m. More minutes |
