Meetings
This is a summary of the minutes from the May 7, 2006 chapter meeting:
Meeting called to order at 10:07 a.m.
Old Business
Burn/Blessing of the Bikes
It was a very windy day and we had a light turnout. Thanks to Jack for the blessed sage bags. We brought the remainder to the meeting to pass out. We made about $20 after paying for the food.
Ride for the Kids
There were over 300 bikes and $62,000 was raised. It was well organized and very successful for the first year. Six of the kids were able to ride.
Work Day
At Buzzy and Bets'. Believe it or not, we got snow that day. That didn't detour Top and Dave Ethridge from getting started. Any member who could help out after work, please give Top a call (281-8228).
State Board Meeting
No report from Tularosa. Rio Rancho has 14 members with no events planned. Nominations for Treasurer (Joe Ashton) and Deputy Coordinator (Dave Covert and Scott Guffey).
State ABATE Picnic
The event will be held at the Bar Diamond S Rodeo Grounds on June 24. Cost will be $10/person; that includes a food ticket and beer. New members who sign up at the gate will get free admission. Games will start at noon and a specific time for dinner will be announced. Extra food tickets can be purchased for $5. The gates will open at noon on Friday (23rd) for set-up. Members please bring a raffle prize to donate and a dessert for the meal. There will be no open fires and cigarette butts will go in the butt cans only. Security will be provided by the Rio Rancho chapter with every member's help and support. First Mountain Chapter will be cooking the food and Big D will be cooking breakfast. Scott and Charlene have done a great job organizing and planning this event. They still need a lot of help getting things done, so please give them a call at 832-6332 to see how you can help out. Hope to see you and your friends at this event.
New Business
Fenton Lake
Fenton Lake has been reserved for the Labor Day Bike Run/Campout. The dates are September 1-4. Mark this off on your calendars as this is always a great time for relaxing and enjoying our friendships.
Committees
We need to set up some committees for the upcoming events: the school supply run in August, maybe a benefit ride for the animal shelter in Estancia sometime in July (not definite on date), and any other items that need to be brought to the group. We really have a nice chapter and it saddens me to think what could be accomplished if everyone was to give their support. There are a lot of members who don't participate and we all know there are times when other things in our lives will take precedence, but we truly miss you and hope to see you back.
Chapter Elections
Nominations for secretary and deputy coordinator will need to be made at the next meeting and ballots will have to go out in July.
Announcements
Race Team - Jacob has been busy with running two series. He is now on a bigger bike - 125cc - and adjusting pretty well. He pulled a third on the last race out. The class he rides in is not based on age, so it will be a good challenge for him. The trailer has finally been painted, with much thanks to First Mountain ABATE.
Jack has been hurting and is looking for a wheelchair to get around in. Beverly and Dave from Rio Rancho have offered him one they had. Please keep Jack in your thoughts and give him a call. Don't call before 9 a.m. or after 9 p.m.
Rail and Tamami were in a wreck on their bike in Arizona. Rail was airlifted to Phoenix and had to have eye surgery, but is already back to work. Tamami's injuries were not quite so serious. They are both back and I'm sure would love to hear from you. Give them a call just to say hi or ask if they need anything (831-0712).
Top and members of the Patriots are on the road to DC for the Ride to the Wall. Bob and Joyce are on their bike heading out to Alabama. Other members will be traveling this Memorial Day weekend, so please keep all in your thoughts and prayers.
Next meeting June 4, 10 a.m. at the Ponderosa.
Remember: KEEP SAFE AND ENJOY THE RIDE!
The meeting was adjourned at 11:24 a.m.
