ABATE of New Mexico

Meetings

This is a summary of the minutes from the May 2, 2004 chapter meeting:

Meeting called to order by Chapter Coordinator, Patty Berry at 10:10 a.m. There was no secretary’s report due to the absence of the secretary.

Treasurer's Report

New Business
We discussed possible ways to increase attendance and profits at the next poker run. We plan to advertise more, especially to other ABATE chapters. Bob Leech and Patty will coordinate having a Bale Sale/Munchies table at the State Picnic to benefit the State Crash Fund.

Top and Diana would like to have an old fashioned ice cream social at their home some weekend in June. Time and date to be announced. Bring guitars, flutes etc & play with us.

The chapter, along with New Mexico Patriots, has adopted the abused, neglected, and orphaned children at Memorial Hospital. We plan to go about 4 times a year to bring a little light and love into their lives. Several members of each group have gone on Christmas and Easter, and the next date will be the 4th of July, possibly for barbeque. Patty suggested we make our chocolate motorcycles with stars on them. Top was nominated to be Uncle Sam.

We have 4 new members: Dana and Barbara Hartshorn, Dave Barnhart, and Elizabeth Lacey. Welcome!

Top announced that the New Mexico Patriots need shirt printing done. They are having trouble with the current printers. Since FMA is experienced, and has its own "cottage business" going, he suggested doing this printing might be another money-making project. Jack said we can do single-color printing only, and if that can be worked out, that this might work out well. Patty also mentioned that Rio Rancho ABATE has also approached her to do the same thing. We voted to research this possibility further. Patty will also check our stock to see what sizes we have and what we need to make for our own supply. Charly and Top recommended purchasing more sleeveless and long sleeved with pockets.

Old Business
The Chapter picnic will be June 12-13 at Villanueva. This is a really beautiful area just past Clines Corners. Please try to attend.

Jack mentioned that the 1st meeting of each month, those who can ride leave after the meeting. That being today, Top, Charlie, Warren, Kristen, Darren, and Joyce and Bob all rode. (Hey! Where were you, Jack?) Please plan to ride if you can! Jack also made various tags which are for sale. The price for each is $5.00. $1.50 from each will be donated to the race team.

The State Picnic is the following weekend at Cedro campgrounds. The Lanky Dave stickers will be ready by the State Picnic dates. Chocolate motorcycles will be made just prior to those dates. Yvonne and Patty will order the beer. Our chapter is to donate $250 toward this, and will be reimbursed by the state if the cost exceeds this amount.

Announcements
Kathy Swell is back home! She is still in a lot of pain, and faces several months of recovery. She sends her thanks for the visits and phone calls while she was hospitalized. She can take phone calls, as long as they are short ones. Please call her, and keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Top reminded us that the chapter canopies will need to be picked up prior to his departure to DC on May 24 for use at the Birthday Bash for Granny. Damon volunteered to pick these up and take them to the Ashton home.

Top also reminded us that the traveling/healing wall is going to be in Los Lunas from May 8-13. There will be a motorcycle parade on Thursday 13 May at 6:30pm. Mountain riders will meet at 217/66 at the mailboxes at 4:30pm. We will go to the Veterans Memorial on Louisiana and Gibson, where we will meet up with other riders from town, departing at 5:15pm and ride to the starting point in Los Lunas.

Al won the 50/50 pot and donated it back to the chapter. One half goes to the race team, and one half goes into the chapter treasury.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:00 a.m.
