ABATE of New Mexico

Meetings

This is a summary of the minutes from the March 26, 2006 chapter meeting:

Meeting called to order at 10:05 a.m.

Old Business

Super Bike Show
There was a lot of interest at the ABATE table (thanks to all who put their time in!). We sold some t-shirts and patches, and picked up 5 new members. Scott and Charlene took two awards for bike and presentation. Bob Casey and Angel's bike "Candy" picked up a third place in a large class of Honda Gold Wings.

Burger Burn/Blessing of the Bikes
Will take place at Los Vecinos Community Center starting at 11 a.m. There will be a section in the parking lot roped off for bikes. A brisket sandwich plate, salad, soda, water and chips will be available for a donation of $5.00. Volunteers to help out should show up about 10:00 a.m. Rev. Mad Jack will perform the blessing of the bikes. Hope you can make it.

State ABATE Meeting
Will be held at the Zapata Club on April 8th at noon. First Mountain Chapter will be providing the food. Call Patty at 281-3493 if you can help out with a salad or brownies.

COC Meeting
Will be April 1 at the Zapata Club at 4 p.m. There will be bike games, burger burn and band to follow the meeting. $5 donation. Check out the website www.nmconfederationofclubs.org

Memorial Plaques
Angel has turned in a check for the memorial plaques and rose bush planting in honor of Garrett and David. They will be dedicated during the Memorial Day service at the Vietnam Memorial Garden. If you will be in town that weekend, try to make plans to attend with your bikes and flags to block out some of the protestors.

NMMRO Update
Bike Day at the Capitol - Barb said we made an impact by talking to the senators and congressmen. Bob Schwartz actually wrote the gang bill, which failed to pass by one vote. We will be able to discuss our objections/concerns with him, as this bill will mostly likely pass next year. The major push next session will be the Failure to Yield Right of Way bill. Everyone, especially veterans, bring your questions to NMMRO to bring to the newly elected officials. When you are in town at a bike shop, ask the owner if he answered the questionnaireo n the new EPA regs. Don't forget the www.mrf.org web site.

New Business

Garage Sale
Mita will be involved with the wives of George's company in raising funds to rent banquet facilities when they return from their tour. The first sale will be this weekend, April 1-2, at Against the Grain from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Since you will not receive the minutes before the event, I just wanted to pass on that they will be having more sales in the future. So put aside your stuff that could be donated and give Mita a call at 281-5737.

Patriots News
Angel reported that the Patriots were asked to lead the procession for the recently slain deputy sheriff. The group will also be doing their annual Easter run to the psych hospital. The run will be April 15, leaving JB's on Eubank and I-40 at 12:30 p.m. Please bring 2 stuffed bunnies. Remember, you may not take pictures of the kids. Don't forget the Ride For Kids, April 23 at 8 a.m. You need to have your pledges (minimum of $50) with you when you sign in.

Monthly Meetings
Due to conflicting activities, there will be no April meeting. The meetings have been moved to the first Sunday of the month. The next meeting will be May 7, 10 a.m. at the Ponderosa. This will be a short meeting followed by our highway cleanup and a ride after - destination to be announced.

MRF Convention
This year it will take place June 16-18 in Prescott, Arizona. NMMRO paid the $100 group fee, so feel free to attend. There are rooms at the Prescott Resort for $85/night. People will be leaving June 16. Anyone interested in going shouild contact Barb at 792-3207 before May 15.

50/50 Raffle for Crash Fund
Boomer won and donated the $46 back to the fund.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:52 a.m.
