ABATE of New Mexico

Meetings

This is a summary of the minutes from the February 19, 2006 chapter meeting:

Meeting called to order at 10:13 a.m.

Old Business

Super Bike Show
The Super Bike Show will be held at the Manuel Lujan building; dates are March 17, 18 and 19. ABATE will host a table/booth. Check with Mike or Patty for times to volunteer. Patty has volunteered to bring a table. Mike is trying to get two additional passes so we could go in groups of two to man the booth. State ABATE and NMMRO will be sharing the booth. Call 281-3493 to sign up for times.

Bike Day at the Capitol
Bike Day was good. Patty, Boomer and Top spoke in the Rotunda as well as Mimi Stewart and Rick Miera. Rick will stay in office or run again next year to support us. Both he and Mimi said they would try to attend more ABATE and MIA/POW events. Members wne throughout the capitol to oppose the wording of the "gang" bill. Bob Schwarts spoke to several ABATE members to allay any confusion on this bill; he swore that it would not affect motorcycle groups as long as you are not involved in any criminal activity. The bill was not introduced this year.

Memorial Plaques
Angel has made arrangements for the plaques to honor Garret Iverson and David Fisher to go in the Veterans Memorial Garden. There will be a ceremony and rose bush planted in their name on Memorial Day. Audra has moved up to the mountains and Mike gave her the remainder of the money ($470).

Bingo Night
Bingo Night was a great success and those who attended had a great time. The Bacas would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the support for Jacob's racing. There was a total of $352.80 from bingo and bake sales collected. There was also an additional $170 from auction items to be deposited in the Larry and CJ fund.

NCOM
Big D was in attendance and spoke about the next regional meeting in November 2006; he would like a good turnout from riders of various clubs. He also spoke of the national meeting that takes place over Mothers Day weekend in Lewisville, and still needs another volunteer to go. Some of the trip will be funded. Please give him a call if you might be interested. The Patriot Act was temporarily extended, an issue we need to stay aware of. A few helmet bills have been repealed.

Burger Burn/Blessing of Bikes
The Blessing of the Bikes will be held at Los Vecinos on April 2 at 11 a.m. Food will be available for a donation. We will have part of the parking lot roped off for the bikes. There are two shelters with tables, and restroom facilities. Please ride safely!
