Meetings
This is a summary of the minutes from the January 15, 2006 chapter meeting:
Meeting called to order at 10:10 a.m.
Treasurer's Report
Old Business
Burger Burn/Blessing of the Bikes
It has been moved to Sunday April 2ed. The place will be announced at a later date. We will have a short meeting there and sell hamburgers/hotdogs for a $5.00 donation. Leigh will make up small spirit bags to be used in the blessing. We hope everyone can attend and bring a friend.
Rio Rancho Toy Run
Discussion was held concerning someone who was injured at the Italian-American Club after the ride. A gentleman was injured while trying to sit in a chair that broke. All in all Rio Rancho (not Abate) was looking for some advice. That day they gave him some money from the proceeds of the run and a gift certificate that had been donated. The next day the gentleman complained of injury and was inquiring whom to sue. Discussion at our meeting brought up having waivers signed at events and it is something to seriously think about.
Ride for the Kids
Joyce (Angel) brought a few posters and flyers for coffee cans to put up at work. She explained that any donations that you bring in count towards the $35 min to ride. Any donations of $300 get you put in a drawing for a bike at that run. The club that brings in the most donations will lead the run next year along with the members receiving a jacket. The run is scheduled for April 23rd to start at the Journal Pavilion. Donations from Starbucks for breakfast and Whole Foods for Lunch after the 50 mile run. For more info contact Angel @281-8673. Mark your calendar.
ABATE of Louisiana
Mita shared with the group a letter she sent to the ABATE of LA along with a check totaling $660.25. It was a very nicely worded letter - thanks Mita.
Feb. 11 - Bike Day at the Capitol
Barb discussed the Failure to Yield Right of Way bill (which will be given a number once it has been dropped in the box) Once again Barb really needs volunteers to help at the Capitol with CJ not being there. Give her a call @ 792-3207. This is election year so we really need to put out the effort to be seen and heard up there. We have an hour for speeches at the Rotunda. If you want to contribute please give her a call. We will have our ABATE of NEW MEXICO flag up there for display along with another POW flag. It was decided all who want to ride up together will meet at the Ponderosa @ 8am. Please put this on your calendar.
Plaques for Garrett and David
Patty explained that the plaques at the Botanical Garden may take some time to obtain. A discussion was held concerning an alternate option of getting them made for the Veterans Memorial Garden. Angel explained it would cost $100.00 to get a plaque made and a rose bush in their names. We could then give Audra the balance of the money. Motion was made and passed. Angel agreed to follow this up.
New Business
Bingo Night
Saturday Feb 18th @ Baca’s. This will be a lot of fun and proceeds will go towards Team ABATE. Bring lots of $$ for bingo, desserts and a can for the Larry and CJ Fund. Potluck @5pm/Bingo @ 7pm. Anyone who has some prizes to donate please contact Leigh 281-5147.
State Board Meeting
Mike, Patty, Joe, Barb, Charlene, and Scott attended. They discussed the layman law, which is a regulation that states you can only have 1 bike in your lifetime that is EPA exempt. MRF is trying to fight this. Take a look @www.mrf.org for more info. Join MRF to help support their efforts. Patty/Barb need volunteers to help stuff envelopes 281-3493/792-3207. DA in Taos wrote a very negative letter against motorcyclists and Banditos. A letter of rebuttal was also published. The State ABATE is purchasing a video from Arizona on motorcycle awareness. Barb will try and have it running on a table @Bike Day at the Capitol. Scott and Charlene are working out the State Picnic details. Nominations for Dep.Coordinator and Treasurer (for STATE ABATE) will be at the next meeting. 1st Mountain will host the July 15th STATE ABATE Meeting @ Baca’s.
